Christmas Is Good, We'll Celebrate It -- Catholics Reply Kumuyi

The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, reacting to Pastor Kumuyi’s proclamation about the celebration of Christmas, said:

Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God’s promise.

“I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement.”

On his part, the spokesperson for the Christian Association of Nigeria, Oshodi chapter, Lagos State, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi, said that Christmas is worth celebrating. Otoibhi told Punch in a telephone interview that the origin of Christmas was not as important as its essence.

He said, “The origin of Christmas, as we know it, could be traced to Roman Emperor, Constantine. Christmas was a day for celebrating the Sun God. However, because Constantine was a Christian, the day was changed to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

“The tradition has continued to date and since the aim of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus since there is nothing bad in honouring Jesus. Also, the worship of the Sun God was done in Rome and not everywhere in the world, so it is not part of our history.”

Christmas Is Idolatrous, Don't Celebrate It ––Pastor Kumuyi

The General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, has warned members of the church against celebrating Christmas, saying the celebration of Christmas is idolatrous and unscriptural.

Kumuyi warned that doing so is making Christians to go back from the commandment of Jesus Christ.

    "We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more."

The cleric said this on Saturday at the annual national December convention of the church, which held at the church’s camp ground in Ogun State.

He said, “When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don’t find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don’t find that in the church either. If you don’t know that before, now you know.”

He warned that any of the church’s leaders that tried to introduce the “idolatry of Christmas” into any section of the church would be sanctioned, while also encouraging other believers in Christ to jettison the celebration as part of their sacrifice to perfection.

Kumuyi said the duty of the church is to make people more like Jesus Christ, not join in worldly celebrations.

“We are not trying to make the church turn like the world. We want it to be like Jesus Christ, and more like the Apostles. If you don’t have that mind with us, then you have permission to go to other places,” he added.

A mother is currently facing charges after she publicly posted unclad pics of herself and her teenaged daughter.

Photos of the 50-year-old mum and her 14-year-old daughter circulated among two high schools via social media, leading to a charge of child endangerment for the mom.
It was revealed that the ladies deliberately posed for the picture because they concealed their bosoms with their hands while leaving the rest of their chests exposed.
“It certainly appeared that the picture was posed and it certainly had some s*xual overtones,” police reports revealed.
The mother, whose name has been withheld to protect her daughter, denied that she posed.
“I wasn’t posing, I was getting out of the tub.”
It was also revealed that the photo was taken by the 14-year-old’s younger sister and eventually was seen by an unknown number of eyes on Snapchat, a smartphone app that deletes a photo after a recipient has had a few seconds to look at it.

Mikhail Kalashnikov, inventor of AK-47, dies at 94

Mikhail Kalashnikov, the Russian gun designer whose AK-47 rifle became the weapon of choice for many national armies and guerrillas around the world, died Monday, the Kremlin announced on its website.

He was 94.

Kalashnikov designed his first machine gun in 1942 after suffering injuries as a tank commander for the Soviet Union's Red Army during World War II, but it wasn't until 1947 -- after years of tweaks -- that the AK-47 was introduced for Soviet military service.

The weapon, recognizable by its banana-shaped ammunition magazine, became known for its simple effectiveness. It was easy to use and maintain, and it was reliable in extreme conditions, be they hot, cold, wet or sandy.

From the early 1950s, it became the standard weapon for Soviet and Warsaw Pact countries, according to IHS Jane's. The gun also proved popular with paramilitary groups: It was so successful in Mozambique's successful rebel movement of the 1960s and 1970s that its image appears in the national flag.

Russia stopped producing AK-47 models in the late 1960s, but production of variants continued there and in other countries.

The Guinness World Records book recognized the AK-47 -- AK being a Russian acronym for "Kalashnikov's machine gun" and 47 standing for its debut year -- as the world's most common machine gun.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday "expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Mikhail Kalashnikov in connection with his death," a post on the Kremlin's website read.

In 2009, Kalashnikov told CNN that two main qualities described the AK-47: simplicity and reliability.

"It is very important because a soldier doesn't have university degrees," he said. "He needs a simple and reliable weapon. Just as an academic, for that matter, in a combat situation. There's simply no time to figure how to operate a complicated weapon and press many buttons when the enemy is advancing on you."

He said the question he hated most was whether he felt sorry about the hundreds of thousands of people that were killed as a result of his invention. He had a standard answer:

"I've designed my weapon to defend the borders of our Fatherland, and let it continue to serve this purpose."

In 2011, Izhmash, the Russian manufacturer of the AK-47 family of weapons, said it was abandoning the design in favor of a new one for its next-generation assault rifles.

Kalashnikov's 90th birthday, in November 2009, was celebrated in Russia nearly like a national holiday. In a televised Kremlin ceremony, then-President Dmitry Medvedev decorated him with the country's highest order, the Hero of Russia.

MANDELLA DIES @ 95 YEARS

Former South African President Nelson Mandela died on Thursday at the age of 95.

Mandela, the first black and post apartheid President of South Africa, died in his home in Johannesburg, according to South African President Jacob Zuma, who announced the late anti-apartheid hero’s death.

Mandela was discharged from a Pretoria hospital in September after spending seven months in the lung hospital, where he was admitted for lung infection. Relatives and the South African government have consistently maintained that his condition was “stable but critical.”

In announcing Mandela’s death on Thursday night, President Zuma said in his address, “Nelson Mandela, 95, passed away at his home a short while ago. While the late President’s health had been in steady decline for a number of years, it is still difficult to come to terms with the fact that he is no longer with us.

“It is impossible to put into words the impact that Mandela has had on the world. He showed that peaceful resistance, even in the midst of the most terrible circumstances one could possibly imagine, is and should be possible. He could have been bitter and call for retaliation against his and his peoples oppressors, but he insisted on a government of inclusion and reconciliation. Somehow, some way, he succeeded in bringing his people along with him.

“The world lost a giant today. One of those few people that is bigger than life and he will be remembered for many years to come. May he rest in peace.”
